The Arab world has lost the image war in the West. Wrong strategies and bad decisions have left the region with a distorted image in Western media. The new war about local media has started.
With Google, Facebook and other global players given open access to the market and without any regulation or anti-dumping law, the local media market has taken a massive beating. Left unchecked, this war too will be lost and local media will disappear and the emergent global media will control the image of the region, both outside and inside. To solve this paradox, this round table aims to bring an open discussion on how taxes and rules, like in many European countries, could enable the region to level the market and have fair competition.
